VETERANS CORNER March 2024
Spring is on its way for the Veterans Committee. Easter is in March this year and we’re planning a project for the Veterans at the Southern Utah Veterans Home in Ivins. We’ll be putting Easter treats together at our March meeting. Our Grand Exalted Ruler will be with us at the Spring Meeting that our Lodge will be hosting, and his visit will include a trip out to Ivins for a visit at the facility. We will be handing out special t-shirts to some of the veterans at the home. We are starting to plan for a Memorial Day Program. The event we held last year had a wonderful attendance and it was so well received that we were asked to do one again this year. Mark your calendars now for this special program to be held on Memorial Day. Volunteers will be needed. During the past few months, we have been receiving calls from veterans in need as well as requests from other St George veteran groups for assistance. We have answered these requests with gas cards, grocery store cards, paid utility bills, and some rent assistance. Our efforts to network in the community to offer assistance, and give information regarding veteran Benefits is really working.
The new VA Outpatient Clinic opened on January 9th, 2024 at 585 E. Riverside Dr in St. George. The Grand Opening Ceremony will be held on Friday March 8th from 1 to 2 pm and from 2 to 5 pm is a VA Benefits Fair. They would like you to visit and take a tour. During the Benefits Fair they will have staff to assist with Enrollment/ Eligibility and answer your questions. The VA Benefit team will also be available to assist with filing for disabilities caused by Military Service. Reminder: The Veteran Committee meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month unless a change is listed in this article. Also remember to reach out to our Veterans with care and honor.
