This project began when Amy Cowley, an aide in the ER and future Elks member, wanted a way to comfort children in the ER who were sick and didn't feel well, or frightened at the tests and blood work that needed to be done. Amy remembers one family specifically whose child had been brought to the ER but died in spite of the efforts of the doctors. The family's other children were in the waiting room crying. Amy wished she had something to give them to hold that would bring them comfort as they grieved.
Because of your generous donations, over 900 children have received teddy bears at Dixie Regional Medical Center. This effort has not gone unnoticed. A plaque will be hung in the ER waiting room thanking the "Dixie" Elks Lodge, pictures of kids and our teddy bears are on the hospital's digital picture board, and we are also being featured in the Intermountain Health Care (IHC) newsletter.
